FAQs.

  • All you need for your telehealth session is a device (phone, tablet, computer) that is connected to the internet. Most devices have a microphone and camera inbuilt, but some people prefer to wear headphones. Ideally you will be in a safe and private space where nobody can overhear our conversation. I encourage you to get comfortable - sit somewhere comfortable, have a good level of lighting and have some food or drink if you like.

  • No. Basic Zoom is free to download, but you don’t need to download it at all. When I send you the link via email and/or SMS, it will allow you to open the Zoom room even if you have not downloaded the program yourself.

  • I use Zoom Pro for business which is password protected and generally regarded as safe to use regarding privacy. The same confidentiality rules and limits that exist in face to face therapy also exist in telehealth. What we discuss will not be recorded by me on Zoom, and, barring the limits to confidentiality (which we will discuss), what we talk about will stay between us.

  • The most common tech issues we will encounter will be things like microphone issues, the camera freezing or issues around Zoom links. These issues are rare and for the most part won’t be a problem. But it’s nice to know what we will do if something goes wrong. At the beginning of our first session we will establish a ‘plan of action’ in the event of a technological issue. Usually this simply involves us re-entering the Zoom room. If something more serious occurs, I will call you and we will discuss next steps then.

  • Emergency situations will be rare, but it is still a good idea to have a talk about how we will proceed if something does come up. My primary concern is your safety. So if something happens and I worry that you might not be safe, I will do the following (which we will have discussed in our first meeting): I’ll call you. If you disappear from your screen or suddenly log out I will SMS you to see if it is a technological issue. If I get no answer I will call you, to check that things are okay. In the case of a medical emergency (on your end) I will either use your provided emergency contact or call 000. Ultimately these scenarios are extremely rare. But it’s a good idea to know what to expect if they do occur.
